This is the most interesting story I've ever read about domain hijacking.
- However, there are some questions still:
You didn't mention how the registrar sent the information - which I believe it has to be two-step process - to reset the password, or remind him with the current one; to a false email that is not yours!?
Also, you have damages resulted from their gross negligence or system bug that have to be compensated. Did you approach them about that?

Happy doaining though :) > I hope, yes, securing your domains more, and I hope this company revise and audit their security and password procedures.

[...] Its very important to register your domain name with a registrar that is secure and have a proven security record. I registered my domains with Name.com, they have pretty good security on domain accounts. If my account was hacked it was not the fault of domain registrar, my email account got hacked first and then cracker took control of my domain name account. However Name.com helped me out and I took my account back.
[...] Sometimes an owner of a site will register their website using their internet service provider’s e-mail system. Then they switch internet service providers and lose the old e-mail. They forget to put in a new email with their website hosting. Then if there is a notice of a transfer attempt it would never be known. I read there is a 5 calender day period to respond to a transfer request but I am not sure if locking alters this period or not. Read more information about Premium Domains Hijacked.
