Adsense Now Available on Mobile Apps

by Aqeel Syed on June 30, 2009

If you have a mobile phone where you can download apps, then you may have noticed that some of the apps have ads on them. Mobile application developers use them to make money. Google had been testing AdSense on mobile apps for the iPhone and Android in a kind of private beta with roughly 10 partners, including Pandora, Shazam and Urbanspoon. Now the program is opening up to apps developers and publishers who meet some criteria (among them, a 3 month commitment, 100K+ page views).

On the advertising side, the process by which advertisers select their audiences and bid for placement is largely similar to the Web-based version of AdSense. “Placement targeting” (choosing which app to advertise on), keyword and broad geo targeting are carried over, although placement targeting is still in the experimental phase.
You can apply for Adsense for Mobile Applications by clicking here.

Adsense CPM Ads

by Aqeel Syed on March 26, 2009

Shankar asked,

PLease do clarify what if none of the ads is being clicked by any of the visitors?… But for instance, the page is having a lot of visitors… Will adsense pay just for displaying ads on a page – which is viewed by lot of ppl?

You’re asking about CPM ads. CPM stands for “cost per 1000 impressions.” Advertisers running CPM ads set their desired price per 1000 ads served and pay each time their ad appears.

CPM ads can only be server on a page if a Adwords advertiser bid for placing CPM ads and place higher bid then CPC ads. So it is a rare scenario, that you get CPM ads on your pages.

My experience is CPM ads yeild high revenue, even some time tripple the CPC ads. CPM ads in Google Adsense compete against pay-per-click (or CPC, cost per click) ads in the ad auction, so only the highest performing ads will be served to your pages. If an advertiser wants to specifically target your site, they will need to bid high enough to beat out the CPC ads that are already in the auction in order to show up on your page. Google pays you each time a CPM ad is shown on your page. But you won’t earn additional revenue for clicks on these ads.

If you’re interested in CPM ads, there are many CPM alternatives to Adsense, Problogger has a good list here of Adsense CPM alternatives.

Adsense for Domains is Open for Everyone

by Aqeel Syed on January 19, 2009

We earlier talked about Adsense for Domains in our post about making money from domains. Google had this AdSense product for domains, but only people with huge portfolios could have access to it.

Today they are opening that product up to all publishers, so even if you have few domains laying around you will now be able to put AdSense on them.

The good news is that  it will be more money that what it was possible to make before with the domain parking companies (if nothing else you are taking out the middle man).

To use this feature, you just need to log into your AdSense account and click on the “AdSense Setup” tab, and there should be an “AdSense for domains” option there. Currently it is only available to U.S. AdSense publishers though, but Google should expand it to everyone else soon.

by Aqeel Syed on January 12, 2009

This post is part of a series of posts for beginners those who want to start  career as a web entrepreneur.

One of the most widely used and easiest strategies to make money online is by building your website or blog and adding contextual ads to it. Google Adsense is the best and most famous contextual ad program. Adsense allows  sites to make money free online by displaying relevant, text-based, Google Adsense Make Moneyun-obtrusive ads from Google AdWords (Google’s own advertising program) and receiving a share of the pay-per-click payment. Adsense pays you on CPC (cost per click) bases.  It means when someone visits your site and he clicks on an ad, you get paid for that click. The more popular and visited sites you have, the bigger your earnings from Adsense.

Higher the number of visitors = Higher the number of clicks on ads = Bigger your earnings.

To get started you need a website or a blog, for this you need to register a domain and purchase web hosting. But don’t worry even if you don’t own a domain and web hosting. You can get free web hosting and a subdomain from services like Blogger.com

After you have created your website and added content to it, you can join Adsense. Its is easy to join, it doesn’t cost you anything, all you have to do is paste a few lines of code into your pages, and Google does the work of finding the best ads for them from hundreds of thousands of AdWords advertisers.

In next post we will discuss how to creat a basic website to get started. Stay tuned :)
