Payoneer Pakistan Users Can No Longer Use Payoneer – Change in Regulations

468x60-1

31 minutes earlier I received an ominous email from Payoneer support stating that users from certain countries including Pakistan can no longer use their Payoneer card due to new anti-money laundering laws by US government.

Due to a change in requirements from our regulators, as of June 1, 2010 Payoneer cards will be blocked for transactions in the countries listed by the US government as having strategic Anti Money Laundering (AML) deficiencies. This change will affect card usage in the following countries: Angola, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Sao Tome and Principe.

If your card is in use in one of the countries listed, we encourage you to use all funds by May 31, while transactions are still possible in these countries.

Please note that beyond May 31 your card will continue to be fully functional in all countries not banned by the US government, and we will be happy to load payments to the card without any change.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that the Payoneer card will continue to provide you with valuable service.

This is a very bad news for every freelancer and web entrepreneur who was completely relying on Payoneer. In this email one question remains unanswered that users will still be able to receive funds and use Payoneer cards to make transactions to US merchants. I had asked this question to Payoneer support and now waiting for their reply. Will keep my readers updated at this situation.

Update: Reasons for Payoneer’s ban of Pakistan.

Update 2: Call for Action

Update 3: Payoneer’s Ban is Partial

    Dear Friends,

I am also from Pakistan and working on ODESK since 3 years, no doubt that is very bad news but we have alternative. I just let them my friends that it is not the end we can protest aginst that but we need a way to withdraw our money from odesk.

Here what you should do in the mean while:
1- Open a back account with Standard Chartered or any other bank I have account in MCB. (the bank/branch should have swift code).
2-Register yourself at http://www.moneybookers.com (provide your odesk email for withdrawals)
3-Add Bank account details in your “My Account” section of back detail.
4-Request the ODESK to transfer your money to moneybookers and from moneybookers you can send a request to transfer money from moneybookers to your bank account.

I am already using that, if any one have any question please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

I am with all of you to protest against that.
    Regards,
    Mohammad Asif

I think It was better If they put some Limit in ATM With Drawal or Add Address Verification Method instead of blockage ? Until AML BILL APPROVED If our Govt is sleeping whats our Mistake? Y we Suffer its not in our hands neither our Responsibility ?Payoneer knows 90% are true freelancers coz they know the source of money of their pak customers. We all are Geniune users of payoneer CARDS. Payoneer revenue will go less for Sure If Payoneer dont take this pathetic decision back for its Pakistan Card Users. One thing is for sure. They are massive users of payoneer cards in Pakistan.

    Hi ALL,
To involve Press is one viable option but i am afraid we cant directly get the media to report this news without any involved interest for them. But one possibility is we should go to the press clubs at different major cities like Lahore Karachi and Islamabad and share with them the negligence of our law makers.

As second step i would also like to share that we the freelancers should form some sort of association like “All Pakistan Freelancer’s Association” to handle such things in future. I am sure there are lots of volunteers including me for such cause. And sure as above we have many enthusiastic people like Aqeel and Alena. Such step will give us a solid platform and we will be in position to say at least an entity in pakistan

  • I agree with Usman to form some association of Pakistani Freelancers.

I received an email from Payoneer that they are re-issuing all cards because they have changed their issuer bank, I requested for one and just got an email that my application has been approved and they need some extra verification documents from Pakistani users, i.e. a copy of Govt. issued ID and proof of address. New card could be used in Pakistan. Although there will be an extra $15 fee for all these extra steps but anyways its a good news 🙂
